8. Fatal
Sex abuse was a prominent theme among last year's crop of Korean films but none addressed the issue as effectively as Lee Don-ku's debut feature Fatal. One of the great discoveries at the 17th Busan International Film Festival, it is low-budget film that is difficult but also immensely rewarding. Lee Chang-dong is said to have been very impressed by the film and it's easy to see why. Gritty, real and stark but not bereft of hope, Fatal is an explosive start to what should be a very interesting career.
