Most Anticipated Korean Films of 2016

20. Queen of Crime
범죄의 여왕
Dir: Lee Yo-sub (1st Film)
Cast: Park Ji-young (The Show Must Go On, 2007), Jo Bok-rae (C’est si bon)
Production: Gwanghwamoon Cinema
Distribution: Contents Panda (Next Entertainment World)
Filming Dates: 2015-07-06 ~ 2015-08-11
Status: Post-Production
Genre: Thriller, Comedy

Plot: A mother investigates the oddly high water bill at her son’s shabby lodgings and finds herself sucked into a bigger mystery.

What to expect: Frankly, this is a very low-key film with a comedy-thriller premise that could easily result in mediocrity, but the reason this is one of the list is that it includes a lead role for Jo Bok-rae, an excellent actor who I believe could be poised for great things if the right projects come along for him. He was easily the best thing in last year’s C’est si bon (as legendary folk singer Song Chang-sik) and here’s hoping director Lee is the right person to get the best out of him.

When can we see it? Not a high priority title so very hard to say. Also difficult to tell whether it will bow at a festival or on domestic release first.
