The Korean Film Festival in Australia returns for its fifth year, bringing with it a slate of the country’s must-see films from the past year. KOFFIA will be touring across six cities this year, and the festival will kick off in Sydney on August 31st and finish up in Adelaide in late September.
- Sydney: August 13 – 21, Event Cinemas George Street
- Canberra: August 13 – 14, Dendy Cinemas
- Brisbane: August 27 – September 2, Event Cinemas, Myer Centre
- Perth: August 3 – 6, Event Cinemas, Innaloo
- Melbourne: September 9 – 16, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square
- Adelaide: September 23 – 26, Event Cinemas, Arndale
Opening the festival will be the action thriller Cold Eyes, which was a huge box office draw in South Korea. Our own Pierce Conran described it as a film “firmly rooted in Hollywood genre cinema”. Check out his review for Cold Eyes.
Closing the festival is Lee Joon-ik’s drama, Hope, which depicts the recovery of an 8-year-old girl after being the victim of rape and abuse.
