KCN: Masquerade Triumphs at Daejong, Korean Films Wins Awards at Festivals (10/25-10/31, 2012)

Masquerade won a record-breaking 15 trophies at the Daejong Film Awards while a number of Korean films won prizes at major international film festivals.

49th Daejong Film Awards: Masquerade Wins... Everything
The largest movie awards show returned tonight as it held its 49th edition in Seoul. As the size and prestige of the industry has risen over the years, so has this awards show, which could be seen as Korean cinema's equivalent to the Oscars. It's not the only awards show in town as the Blue Dragon Awards, which take place in November, are also fairly prominent, but it's the longest running and the one with the highest profile. A Company Man Sold to 55 Countries
A Company Man, starring So Ji-sub, which opened on October 11th and broke the one million mark 12 days after release, has been sold to 55 countries, according to Showbox, the film’s investor and distributor. (KoBiz, October 29, 2012)

Juvenile Offender Wins 2 Awards in Tokyo
Juvenile Offender, directed by Kang Yi-kwan, won the Special Jury Prize at the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival. Seo Young-ju, the main actor of the film, was also awarded the Best Actor Award, he is not only the first Korean actor to take home the prize but also its youngest ever recipient. Exciting Start to the Paris Korean Film Festival!
It took only three days for tickets to the 7th Korean Film Festival in Paris (Festival du Film Coréen à Paris, FFCP) to sell out through their on-line booking service website. (KoBiz, October 26, 2012)

Korean Short Animation Feted by Warsaw Film Fest
Kim Jin-man’s short animation Noodle Fish won the Best Animated Short award at the 28th Warsaw Film Festival. This 10-minute-long animation about a fish, which was made using noodles, received the Best Animated Short award in the ’Short Films Competition’ section at the awards presentation of the festival held on October 20th. Experience PiFan Once Again
There will be a second chance to view some of the films screened during the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan). PiFan and KT&G SangSang Madang will co-host the ‘PiFan Road Show in SangSang Madang-PiFan Never Ends (PiFan Road Show for short)’ at SangSang Madang Cinema near Hongik University from October 26th to 28th. The Singular Lee Sang-woo, Director of Barbie
Lee has been in the industry for a long time, most notably as Kim Ki-duk's assistant director, before making the transition to becoming a prolific director in his own right. His official debut was Tropical Manila in 2008 and he has released six films up until now, including Mother Is a Whore (2010), but has actually shot as many as 12, most of which will be released in the near future.
