Korean Film Invited to Venice’s Independent Section
Director Jeon Kyu-hwan’s feature-length film The Weight has been included in the line-up of the Venice Film Festival’s autonomous sidebar section, the movie’s distributor Fine Cut said. Jeon, whose previous works include Berlinale-featured Varanasi and Dance Town, has become the first Korean director to be invited to the Venice Days competition program. The sidebar is widely considered to be the equivalent of Cannes Director’s Fortnight. (The Korea Herald, July 25, 2012)
Korean actor Cha Tae-hyun, who is famous for his trademark comic characters, says he is seeking more chances to take on more comedy projects. Cha, who looked a bit more nervous than unusual, spoke up about his preference to play in comedy flicks and his impressions about being part of the historical film The Grand Heist at the new film's press conference held in Seoul on July 25. 4 Korean Films Invited to Melbourne International Film Festival
The MIFF's official website showed Tuesday that four feature films that have been well received in Korea will be screened during the festival that will take place in Melbourne, Australia from August 2 to 19. Director Hong Sang-soo's In Another Country (2012), Yoon Jong-bin's Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time (2011) and Im sang-soo's The Taste of Money (2012) have been invited under the segment 'Accent on Asia,' which focuses on the unique vitality of filmmaking by Asian directors. Additionally, auteur Yeun Sang-ho's animated feature The King of Pigs (2011), featuring the voices of Yang Ik-june and Oh Jung-sae, has been set to be screened under the animation category. Korean American Film Festival to Run Aug 9-11
KAFFLA will showcase four feature-length narrative and documentary films along with 13 short films. A centrepiece programme will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the LA Riots with documentaries portraying the perspective of the second generation Korean-American. (Screen Daily, July 23, 2012)

Park Chan-wook's Stoker Released Early 2013
It was revealed that visionary filmmaker, Park Chan-wook's Hollywood venture, Stoker has finally confirmed its released date. As reported on Chosunilbo website, the movie is slated for cinematic release on 1 March 2013. Earlier, it was reported that Clint Mansell (Smokin Aces, Black Swan) has signed on to produce the music scores for the film – written by actor Wentworth Miller of the "Prison Break" fame under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. Kim Ki-duk Back With New Film Pieta
Kim Ki-duk, one of the best known Korean directors overseas, said on Thursday he has realized that filmmaking makes him happy, in his first appearance before local media in four years. “It will be my first feature film to be shown in four years,” Kim said during a news conference in Seoul to promote his new film Pieta.  “I haven’t worked on any movie for many reasons so far. This time, I surely felt that I’m happy when I make films.” (The Korea Herald, June 20, 2012)
